It’s a new year- a new canvas of life!
I looked over my old goals that I posted online last year and noticed some growth in them. I journeyed towards a few of them, and flat out missed others. I took more pictures last year, and submitted some writing pieces to various outlets. Unfortunately, the latter goal has not been completely realized, I hope to have success this year in the writing endeavor. Overall, 2012 was an eventful year.
As I was thinking back on the year, something I read came to mind when I realized I didn’t publish a writing piece. Stephen Covey in his classic work “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People“ informed his readers that they need to begin with the end in mind. Visualizing a goal goes a long way in the pursuit of it. For example, if I want to run a half-marathon, I should work with the goal in mind, not constantly criticizing myself for being slow. Or as St Paul would write, run the race with the prize in mind. If I don’t hit the mark, then I am that much closer to hitting it again next time around. [Hopefully] a little wiser and more disciplined this time around, 2013 will be the year!
Setting resolutions and goals are important because that’s how you accomplish dreams. That’s why I like setting deadlines for my dreams, because they then shift into the realm of possibility. After all, a goal is a dream with a clear timeline attached to it. So without further pontificating, my public goals for the year:
- Learn how to play guitar
- Hike frequently in the great outdoors
- Run a 1/2 Marathon
- Publish a writing piece
What is your goal for the upcoming year?
